Joe Hill is a composer writing for visual media, theatre and performance. Based in Bristol, his influences include experimental electronic, jazz, funk, orchestral, avant garde, folk and world music.
Recent works include an orchestral romantic waltz for a surreal short film, ambient and morphing drone soundscapes for a theatre production and interactive avant-garde performance art exploring graphic scores.
Joe’s natural performing and improvising abilities have found him playing in numerous bands and ensembles on electric bass, piano, synthesisers and percussion all across the UK. Credits include Piin, Shifty Lao, Regime, New Palace Talkies, Groovehead and many more. He is adept with using digital technology live, being able to explore musical sounds far beyond the remit of acoustic instruments.
He is also a keen film maker and animator, creating visuals for his band Piin where he triggers and manipulates film snippets whilst playing bass. Joe has also been commissioned as a graphic designer, making album artwork, posters and promotional material.
